The short term plan worked well!
By BurnleyMik | August 28, 2008
Firstly.. the spammers. FUCK OFF. You horrible Sons of a bitches. Honestly. I had to moderate over 100 spam comments this weekend. All from the same wankers at this IP Address: 200.63.42.136 2. They are based in Panama and are making the comment moderating a nightmare.
I thank everyone who has been leaving me genuine comments. Anyone with any ideas how to block these other spamming MF’s please tell me because they are driving me nuts.
Anyways back to the poker.
Well it was a successfull weekend, thats for sure!
Went back to my usual MTT’s and SnG’s.
We’ll start with SnG’s.: -
Been mixing it up all over the place.
I was playing $11 SnG’s at Party Poker - TBH I hate the software and the games were not quite as juicy as I’d hoped. Sure there were a few European fish there, but also lots of solid multi-tablers. I knocked out about 25 SnG’s there and finished for a profit of about $56. Not too bad, but I really dispise that software. So many niggly things that drove me mad.
I did start at the $6 games initially, but then I found out they charge 20% Juice on the rake for those games! haha. Are you kidding? a $5 buy-in and you charge $1 rake? LOL. How can anyone play those and grind out a profit??? Hence the step up to get a feel for the games.
I gotta say that the software, coupled with the no rakeback and shitty player points promotions are making Party a big no-no for me.
I also played a few $6 SnG’s on Full Tilt. Again the games were not very soft, but I managed a small profit, but only about 10 games or so. I don;t mind Full Tilt, but once again without rakeback and with the player points bonuses being so weak, i can;t see the point of volume grinding on that site either.
I also played Stars. $6 games here too, just testing the water at these levels really. Again profitable, buyt not by much. I still can;t work out if the Stars games are the toughest or the fishiest. They are the biggest name in the poker world and so probably one of the first ports of call for the newer fish, but they also hold probably the toughest pool of players online, of any poker site. The FPP’s are not great, but they are not awful like Full Tilt or Party either. I guess I am still weighing Stars up right now.
Finally I was grinding most of my Games at Cardoza. Trying a few levels. I played some $5 games, some $10 games and also some $20 games. Once again iPoker kept trying to screw me from behind and I bubbled more games here than anywhere else, in fact I would think out of the something like 40 games I played I bubbled over 1/4, which was mega frustrating. Eventually though I broke exactly even! haha. All that work for nothing… well actually not nothing, it will be profit when i get my rake back!
I will definately be playing Cardoza SnG’s more I think, simply due to the donkeys and the rakeback. I’ll probably play Stars too, but I want three sites I can move around to and I haven’t decided my 3rd site yet. I am open to ideas.
My MTT’s this weekend.. SHIP IT!
I played a few with relative success. Two nights in a row I won the £1k GTD on Littlewoods. It was a £10 buy-in with slightly over 100 players each time. I think it was about £380 ($760) the first night and about £318 ($636) the second night! haha get in.
I did play it the third night and cashed in 12th haha.
I played well in all my MTT’s this weekend. A few coolers slowed me down, but I was feelin it. I didnt play many. Just about 4 each night for three nights and I enjoyed them.
So, the bankroll was boosted nicely and the confidence returned.
i got some awesome railage from the guys at the forum, which always spurs you on IMO. I lav it!
Thats where I am right now poker-wise.
I am not committing to any challenges or any other strict regimes as the baby is due anytime now. The wife was 36 wks pregnant on Tuesday, so its damned close!
Thankyou to all who have been asking about the welfare of motehr and baby and I am happy to say all is very well *fingers crossed*.
I have been reading up a bit on being a birthing parter.. HOLY SHIT! Thats scary! I have also been advised by a few work colleagues NOT to look when the baby is crowning, they said you will never look at the wife the same way again! LOL. I am just glad I am a bloke!
Take care all.

A kind of short term plan..
By BurnleyMik | August 22, 2008
Staying away from the cash tables right now. Thats a definate! LOL
I left $150 in cardoza and have about $200 on Stars right now as well as a bit on full tilt and some on Littlewoods. I also have just over $1k in Neteller.
I am still deciding how to divide it up and where to put it, but I have thought of some kind of direction.
I am having a discussion with another player about a possible staking deal. I think they have what it takes to be a good player, but they are under rolled to play any higher. I plan to work with them because although I am not doing it at the tables my knowledge of the games isn;t bad and I feel I might be able to help them a bit. Its not really a deal to make me money, I am not that interested, I just fancy giving this guy a shot a little higher to see how he gets on. He has already proven he is a determined person and has been sticking at his current stakes for quite a while. I have given him my proposal and he is going to have a good think about it and get back to me. So we’ll see how that pans out.
Anyways as for my poker..
I am planning, at the moment of heading back to SnG’s with the odd MTT thrown in for good measure.
Just for fun today I played some $5 games on Cardoza and some $6 games on stars. I only played a total of twelve, but had a 64% ROI, which would be virtually impossible to sustain! It did feel good to have a winning day again. I still sufferred beats, but beats in SnG’s dont have the same impact on me.
I played quite well to be honest and made good decisions. I actually finally enjoyed a session of poker again!
So I am now wonderingwhich sites I’d like to play my SnG’s on. I don’t want to be tied to one site, I want probably three to play on. Initially I thought Cardoza (for the rakeback), Full Tilt and Stars, but I am now thinking I may deposit to Party, especially Ias I hear the games are as weak as dishwater.
I’ll have a look round this weekend.
Probably play some tournies (MTT) too at the weekend. None will be on stars though, there are simply too many runners, making the games too long and needing too much luck to bget into the decent priza spots. I don’t mind the $8 and $10 ones that run on Fill Tilt every half an hour and I like the Littlewoods ones. So I’ll probably just play those two for now when it comes to multi tables.
I’ll keep a track on the bankroll and see how I go.
Thats all for now. Gl at the virtual felt

Well that was short lived!
By BurnleyMik | August 20, 2008
Today i woke up all refreshed and fully invograted ready to attck the tables! I fired up Cardoza used the lobby to filter out the juciest games i could find of NL50 6-max.
After finding a couple of suitable tables, I join the waiting lists. Fire up PokerTracker3 and wait for my seat. Man i felt good!!
I sit down to play and I play well. No big pots, a couple of decent folds when I felt I had to be beat. Made good notes and picked up at least two excellent reads.
I played for around an hour grinding out an ok $20 in profit. It was good. I felt like I was playing well.
then it struck. The Motehr facker kicked me squarely in the kahoones as hard as it could. the horrible luck returned. Costing me two buy ins in two hands with the space of a couple fo minutes.
hand one:

SET OVER GOD DAMNED SET! I thought this guy had to have aces. He was a mega nit, playing 12/10 and figured I had good enough implied odds that if I hit I get paid.
Oh no, if i hit, they hit bigger thats a fkin given for the way my luck is.
Honestly, a few weeks ago I stopped playing because this sort of silly shit was happening time after time. I figured It was just a bad bit of variance and also a bit of bad play. So i go away, learn, read and build the confidence back up.
I make the return and POW. FUCK YOU BURNLEYMIK, WE ARE DISTRIBUTING YOUR BANKROLL TO ANYONE WHO PLAYS AGAINST YOU ON iPOKER. Well thast certainly how it felt.
I have not been on the good side of these situations for at LEAST the last 6k+ of hands I have played there and cosdiering I am a casula player, thats a long long fkin time.
The confidence was totally shattered.Gone. Kapputt. Vamoosh.
BAck to square one.
I withdrew my money from Cardoza. No point playing somewhere when i feel I’ll never get the rub of the green.
So now I am in limbo. No idea what I am gonna play or what I am gonna do.
I haven;t got the mental strength required to handle the bad variance to make me a good poker player. My confidence breaks too easily.
I am just stuck. WTF do i do?
It’s so bad because I was mega confident yesterday too. I am so pissed off with it all right now.
Limbo is not a nice place…

Time for a return?
By BurnleyMik | August 19, 2008
This weekend I hardly played any poker at all. I just didnt feel like it. If you are not in the mood, playing for the sake of it will result in poor decisions and in my case, most likely easy tilt.
I played in the excellent new tourney that Acorn, Cloud and Alcanthang setup, but I won;t be playing the rest of the bloggerments due to the new scenario. Basically its a series of games with the winning two players getting to go to London to watch the live filming of a high stakes cash game, with some very big names confirmed, courtesy of Full Tilt.
Unfortunately for me, the games run on a Sunday and Tuesday, I can do the Sunday, but work on Tuesdays so impossible and i would miss 50% of the games. Shame really. I would normally play for the craic, just on the Sunday, but with there being such a good prize up for grabs, i would think it will most likely be more serious than normal and me coming in and donkin about and taking the mickey may not go down too well for those who want the prize.
Also the games are on Full Tilt and I run bad on there ATM. I probably run worse on there than on Stars and thats saying something! lol. Not the biggest fan TBH.
All thart said, its a seriously good prize and well run game. You need to go over to Acorman or Cloud’s blog to check out the details. the links are on my blog list on the right ——>
Cloud’s blog is “Hairy Gymnast” (don’t ask its a long story! haha) and Littleacorn’s is as his name.
Also this week I played the third round of the RTR league. I finished frickin second after getting into the HU with a 5:1 chip lead over that fish Yorkie Pud. He got lucky in one of the first hands with his 9To hit against my A8 AIPF, but after that he hit everything and I kept being given just enough to get me into the hand, but always second best to what that lucky fish had hit!! He also played his big hands well tbh too and maximised value against me.
Enjoyed the game and got a couple of cracking Hammer hands in there too! Sweeeet! I got hammered though once by Teaulc too..lol. I deserved it!
So now for the title of the post. After hardly any poker for a few weeks, i sort of feel refreshed and ready to have another crack at the Cash Games. I have been getting involved with some great threads over on RTR and I realise my thinking patterns are not far off, I just need to think more and concentrate harder when at the tables.
I think i have the solution to this problem… I am going to drop the number of tables i play down to just 2. This should enable a number of things:
1. Better reads on players.
2. better note taking.
3. More time for my decisions.
4. Better table selection.
I am now pretty sure that 4-6 tabling was detrimental to my results. I was doing what I always do.. running before I could walk.
So, I know I won;t earn as much rakeback, but hopefully my profit will be able to offset that.
My rakeback last month actually enabled me to be able to play at NL50 again, so thats where I am gonna start. Lets see if I can tame this fickle bitch that is poker once and for all!
My main goals?
1. Make a profit turn the start of September.
2. Play over 3k hands.
Lets see if i can acheive those and work from there!
Ok ty for reading and gl at the virtual felt.

Just a quickie…
By BurnleyMik | August 15, 2008
Once again no poker played! Hoping to get some in this weekend though!
What i have done though is sit down and concentrate on the Dueces Cracked Training Vids. Instead of just watching and getting bored, a few of us from the forum have gotten together and are going to watch the same series of videos and then try and do some in depth analysis of what we have seen, to basically try and re-enforce what we have been learning.
Already spotted a few problesm with my game, that I would have probably missed had i not been taking notes for discussion. i’ll just list the two that spring to mind right now…
1. making detailed player notes. - Personally I just normally fire off a quick - “calling station” or “slow player” or “3-bets = monster” etc etc. What i noticed the video training guy doing was making short-handed type notes of exactly how hands went down.. i.e. “Check-called flopped trips with min re-raise on turn” or “Called a raise in pos. with 9Ts + called with str8 drw on flop”. - I’ll bet this sort of stuff is SO much more valuable to me when I am in tough situations against certain players. So now I need to massively improve my note taking!
2. Pre flop raises against 50BB or less stacks - I never really took into account how much i raised if there was a shorty in the hand already (i.e. he had limped), I just made my standard raise of pot + 1 BB for each limper. Now I realise this is a mistake. The reasoning is very sound. Lets say I make a standard raise on the button to $2.25 vs a guy with about $15. He decide to call. Now the pot is about $5.25 (taking blinds into account). if I miss the flop c-betting basically commits me to the hand if he shoves. He has $12.75 behind and if i bet say $4 ish and he shoves its only $8 more to call getting over 2.5/1 on the pot. Meaning this hand has now become expensive for me…
Now lets say i only raise to $1.50 pre flop and he calls. If I miss the flop and make a c-bet, it only now has to be about $2.75 sort of size into a $3.75 pot and if he moves over the top its still easy for me to get away for much less. if you see my point…
Keep the pots small vs the shorter stacks, until you have that made hand. Don;t get yourself committed in marginal situations!
oooh.. thats me getting all strategy like! LOL. Well if it helps one person its probably worth it.
Anyway if anyone out there is a DC member and wants to join the discusiions the link to the thread is here: LINK.
Also noticed a new visitor to the blog.. http://www.talkpokertome.com . He kindly gave me a mention over on his Internet space, so i thought it only fair to return the favour!
Finally, a quick mention for Cloud, Alcanthang and Acorn who have done an awesome job for the bloggers. I wont spoil the suprise, to read the full details pop over to one of their blogs, but lets say it will be fun!
once again thanks for reading.

Not really playing..
By BurnleyMik | August 13, 2008
Not bothering much right now TBH. Hence the lack of blog updates.
Got a lot of stuff going on in my personal life and time is something that god didnt bless me with enough of!
Unfortunately working night shifts mean all yoiu virtually do is sleep and work through the week, its a weird routine, but one you sort of get used to.
Some big life changes coming up and I am a bit apprehensive, but excited at the same time. I guess I’ll just take it one day at a time.
I finished the Nursery and now started on our Bedroom and unfortunately cos I have spent so much time on those, the garden wouldn;’t look out of place in teh Amazon rainforest! So I have that to contend with if it ever stops raining long enough!
The weather is unbelievably depressing for British summertime - Rain, rain and more fkin rain. Seriously thats all its done. It’s still warm and muggy and uncomfortable, but to add to that you can hardly get out because its always pissing it down. We have flood warnings this week… I thought global warming was supposed to be making us hotter???? meh. Sod the British weather!
How can folks plan stuff like Camping holidays in this crap?
Anyways, i am still watching the odd DC vid, playing the odd SnG and tourney, but apart from that all my other games have been the league and the bloggerment.
Been doing crap in the League at the moment. Not really playing very well and for some reason i have a mad reason for playing Ak like its AA.. LOL. Bloggerment has been very similar, no luck and weak play.
Got a cracking “loyalty payment” on cardoza last month. I put over 20k hands in and picked up almost $400 back, which helped replenish then roll a bit. I guess in all honesty I haven’t got the drive this month to play poker. All that running bad and playing bad last month destroyed the confidence and motivation. That said, I am not a quitter. I will be back, bigger stronger and more knowledgeable and this time try and make some god damned profit!
Anyways thanks for reading.

ahhh sod it…
By BurnleyMik | July 31, 2008
I have to admit defeat.
I am now officially stepping down to NL20.
I am over-rolled for it, but I am simply not winning at NL50. To be perfectly honest I didn’t feel I was playing really badly all the time, but I just could not win a showdown for the last 7 days. I lost each day consistently. Most of my big hands being smashed to smitherenes. It seriously damaged the confidence.
Also i guess I have to be honest with myself in the fact that I also didnt always play well. I made too many mistakes, which were costly. My main mistake was building big pots with marginal hands that were vulnerable and then beat or with big draws that never got there. i guess I need to slow down with these a bit. I also seemed to get over-tied-in to people’s stats on PT3 HUD. i.e. If i flop top pair vs a fish with a 60%+ VP$IP then i was going to play it hard and never fold, but sometime even the donkeys have hands, especially on weird type boards where their ATC could easily have hit.
I think I need to dissect my game and try and figure out what I am doing wrong. Itys no good always blaming it on bad luck. The fact is, if I am having bad luck or bad variance then I need to figure out a way to minimise losses in these spells, instead of tilting like a dickhead.
Like tonight - i got it in pre flop with two horrific fish quite a few times, each time I had them pre flop, exactly as I thought, but then I;d get outdrawn. So instead of tightening up, the next time that fish shoves for like $30, I make a call with 99, he flips AJ and hold. The thing is, I knew I am racing so my call is tilty/poor.
Meh - I don’t know. maybe I need a coach to kick my ass!
Anyone fancy it?

Impossible?
By BurnleyMik | July 30, 2008
it certainly feels like it right now.
I was doing very well at SnG’s and at MTT’s, making decent profits from both, but this cash game is something else. I KNOW that at the moment I am on the bad end of variance and its really really hard to keep the head straight.I keep getting told to read “The Poker Mindset” by tripz and although i keep having good intentions I never get round to getting it.
My bakroll is now down about $420, which is soul destroying and although I have played badly in spots I am also getting arseholed on iPoker. Today, I played a short session. i got dealt aces twice and both times my opponents flopped sets. One had 8’s one had 3’s. That hurt, but then I turned a broadway straight at the same time makes two pair. I bet he calls, river pairs the board and he moves in… i call and he had rivered the boat.. :-(. If I remember rightly I had TQ i the BB and it was limped to me. the flop came KxJ. So i bet the open ender, turn brings the ace and river another J. He had AJ… I mean what can i do?
I pushed QQ into KK on a 889 flop. Just dropping buy-ins for fun and it doesn;t feel like I can stop the rot.
I am now joining the tables with the mind set that I am going to lose money, no matter what happens. I DREAD getting hands like AQ/JJ/TT/QQ and even KK and AA because I know these hands are going to get me into trouble.
If I flop anything decent I cringe waiting for a horrible card to come that will help my opponent to beat my hand. I just seem to be running into difficult spot after difficult spot. I guess its just bad luck, but its hard to continue. At the moment I have absolutely NO enthusiasm to fire up the tables and play. My confidence has gone. Maybe a break is required.
the one saving grace is that I have made about $350 in “loyalty payments”, which will go some way to recouping my losses.
Actually, if it wasn;t for rake I;d be a winner as I have paid probably close, or over $800 .. hahahahahahaha.
Oh well. i just hope I can get out of this rutt soon before my soul is crushed by the variance monster!

Strange times
By BurnleyMik | July 29, 2008
Well as some of you know I have a baby on the way and he is due in September. This has left me running about like a fkin maniac! I have been trying to get all the DIY jobs and his nursery finished in the last few weeks and its been tough going, as well as looking after the mrs, sort the garden, do the cooking, try and keep ontop of the forum and play some poker!. Especially considering I have hardly managed any sleep in weeks. The longest sleep session i can remember getting is about 7hrs and its starting to catch up with me. This hot sticky weather doesn;t make it any easier.
I am continually a grumpy bastard and snapping a lot, which is a bit unlike me tbh. To top it off a lot of stuff has been happening at the forum, stuff that is pretty menial in the grand scheme of things, but does grind you down.
All this has had a detrimental affect on my poker. I am currently leaking faster than a collender and I can;t stop the rot. The thing is its not the good players who are getting my money, its the donkeys.
I am hunting them down and then donating to them… its insane. Ok, it doesn’t help that I am currently on the shit side of variance, but I am continually paying these fish off. i.e.
Look at this hand from today..

I flop two pair. I am happy! I think the guy was running well above 60% VP$IP (for those of you who don’t understand VP$IP, it basically means they are entering the pot with 60% of the hands they are dealt. Meaning they are playing all kinds of crap) So i raise pre flop, knowing he is calling cos he loves flops more than Hollywood! I flop two pair on a bit of a drawy board, so i lead hard and he flats me. Turn card is an absolute horror card for me, especially when I check and he thinks for a bit and bets pot. now I now he probably has hit and this is where I should just let it go. I ain’t beating much and I’ll have loads of other chances vs this fish to get my money back, but no.. not me, i go and put him in! hahahaha. Just pissing my money away.
Of course he shows J6 and J6 is the nuts, always on a QKA board! hahahahahahaha. The thing is, I knew he was bad and I should have done better, but no, I paid the bloody fish, who then goes and leaves the table right after..grrrrrrrrrr.
You see that’s my problem. I can;t get away vs a fish, even when i know the board is in their range, i still make stupid bets and calls against them.
Now, put me in a pot with a TAG, or someone playing less that 15% of his hands and I’ll play fine, I easily assign them ranges and rarely get it in without the goods or the nutz.
So at the moment I am in limbo. I am pissed at myself for being such an idiot, but I keep returning and doing the same thing. I can;t stop the rot.
So after getting the bankroll to just -$31, i am back down over $350. Every-time I almost get there…BOOM, I make a complete azz of it. I am gutted.
Anyways, that’s all for now.
Maybe today will be the day I get a good sleep! fingers crossed!

Another Downswong
By BurnleyMik | July 27, 2008
Hard day for me yesterday at the tables. It seems like on the days where I have most time to play are the days where i never seem to get the best of it. I try to minimise losses where possible, but as usual tilt got the better of me, especially vs a certain fish who ended up 3-buy ins to the good from me and proceeded to continuosly dump it off to other players.
I just could not catch the damned idiot at all. He was calling my raises with anything and then just flopping monsters. I tried to get myself into a lot of pots with him, but whenevver i did and whatever I hit, he hit harder! Unfortunately he tilted the crap outta me.
Anyways, here are a few HH’s from the session…

In this hand, Picos is the guy I wanted to be in the hand with. I should probably CR the flop to isolate him. I was prepared to enter certain pots, with tight players to try and get Picos to pay me. When i hit the str8 on the turn, I am happy to get it in as he WILL pay me with 2nd pair+, but once again this lucky fk has hit the nuts. Its unreal seriously. He was calling people down for big pots with 2nd pair and all kinds of junk. His Showdown percentage was near the 60% mark.
Ok, to be honest, i doubt I should be in the hand, but he had been tilting me and i was trying to catch him so i could get his chips before others did.

I know this doesn;t look good, but this is me tilting. He just dumped a buy-in to another player at the table with a gutshot straight draw and 3rd pair. Against me though, he flops hard again.
Now, granted I was playing badly too, but only against him. I was at a stage where I was trying to get my money back from this lucky, horrible fish adn i was doing the worst thing a gambler can do… i was chasing.
For me personally, there is nothing worse than a bad player who can’t miss and keeps taking from you.
Eventually i quit the session $238 down. Sick as a parrot, but it just would not happen for me at all adn i ended up playing really badly.
Later in the evening I sat down to play the APAT Belgian open on Blue Square. Played pretty solid, nit making many mistakes, although i did try to get what I thought was a solid player to lay a hand, when I thought he was weak. Well I was right he was weak, but he wasn’t the type of player who can fold AJ pre flop for his stack! lol.
After that i just made the odd steal and re-steal to build up. I then got it all in vs a positional raiser. I had AK and he had A6s. A 6 flopped, but a King on the turn saved my bacon!
A few hands later and it folds to the same guy in the SB and I was in BB. He raised to 2k, with the blinds at 400/800. He was always when whenever he had a chance to open the pot and he seemed to raise a little bigger when he was weak, so I came over the top all in for 12k with 88 in my hand. He made the insta call for 1ok of his remaining 11k with KTo… wow. Seriously. My hand holds all the way until…. yep, you guessed it, the river, which brought him his King.
Suprised by his willingness to call off with KT, but such is. made my notes!
So I finished 16th. A quick shoutout to Scouse, who secured 3rd spot after playing a good tight, patient game.
Right, back off to the tables to see if I run like like a three legged donkey again!
